InStill Life Guatemala

Inspired by their own sons Lukas and Jakubs’ experience with the InStill Life project in Naramata B.C., Jan and Jennifer Vozenilek brought InStill Life to a school in Guatemala.

As in Canada, students explored food in their homes, community and around the planet and then created beautiful still life paintings of their favourite foods. For almost all of the fifty students, it was the first time they had ever painted.

Proceeds from these card sales will be used to purchase needed supplies at the students school, and will also go to fund food challenges around the world through kiva.org, an organization which facilitates micro-lending.

Students in Naramata and Guatemala have exchanged photos and letters and are discovering that despite their different taste in foods, language and experience, that all of us share a love of art, fun and a desire for a better world.

InStill Life Program

The InStill life program invites students to change the world.
Students look at food in their homes, community and around the planet. After looking at food still life paintings through history, students create their own with groupings inspired by their own favourite foods. The beautiful paintings are shared as gift cards and are sold throughout the community.

Proceeds from these card sales are used to fund food challenges locally and to lend to individuals around the world through kiva.org, an organization which enables micro-lending. Students research family farmers and small scale food entrepreneurs in developing countries and examine their loan requests before collectively issuing repayable loans. On a classroom map, photos and stories from around the globe bring the world to life as students bring life to the world.
